Fishing Trip @ HotBoys Kelong

Last weekend, I went for a fishing trip with the bros at a kelong near Sibu Island, Malaysia. The weather was suprisingly good. A rarity considering that this is the monsoon season. I was already half expecting a heavy downpour some time during the trip but the only water that fell from the sky only lasted 5 mins. Guess we were really lucky.

The presence of clouds was a blessing for me cause it act as my gigantic softbox for the soft lighting i need. But that also comes with a price - No dramatic sunset. The few moments when the sun was peeking through the clouds, i was snapping away like crazy. The results - My first attempt at silhouette. The tripod which I brought along broke before I actually got to use it so it was handheld all the way and shooting with whatever i can improvised as a tripod. The wooden platform resonate every time someone pass by which results in some blurring in the long exposure.
I wanted to catch the morning sunrise but i overslept (as expected). No dramatic sunrise due to the thick clouds again. Wanted to create the silky water effect but it was already too bright when i took my first shot of the day. But then again, without the tripod, i wouldn't be able to do much either.
We had to leave early the next day because of the tide. They say if we dun leave by 9, we will have to wait until 6 for the next high tide or else the boat will not be able to reach main land. As a result, we miss the lunch at the kelong but we went for the Kota Tinggi bak ku teh that was recommended. Not bad...
